Zizzi is a chain within a chain (it's owned by ASK), so our culinary alert muscles start to twitch a little. It's basically fast traditional Italian food: pizza, pasta, salad, ice cream: and the occasional risotto. By this stage our taste protection troops are on full alert. The décor is contemporary, the ubiquitous pizza oven is in full view, and the staff are pleasant and competent. We relax. But then the killer: it's very popular with families, especially at lunchtimes and in the early evening. We're out of here and we haven't even gone in yet. Mind you there's a child in all of us, so when it's a bit quieter we'll be back. After all, ASK is a very successful brand so it must be doing something right.

I've been to Zizzi many times, it's my fav pizza place. I have a preference for the Cabot Circus venue and we'll go there prior to going to the cinema or sometimes, or on a FRiday after work. I love the calzone (I'm a veggie too). The staff are always really attentive, the food is yummy and it'salwys packed - the sign of a good place to eat.

Great for a sunday evening

I went to Zizzi (Clifton Village) last night with a group of friends.
We hadn't booked but they found us a table for 6 very quickly.
We had a range of platters an I had the pizza "Sofia", the bases are all hand made in the restaurant and cooked in their wood burner.
It was very tasty indeed, with the thin crust not overcooked and generour toppings. The others in the group has pastas and the lamb and nobody had a bad word to say about the food.
The restaurant itself is child friendly but the ambiance is such that we weren't disturbed by the youngsters from other families that were there.

low quality chain

I wasn't expecting great things from Zizzi being a chain restaurant, but I did expect them to have the basics right - basic service and being an Italian restaurant to have a range of decent quality pasta dishes. The restaurant was busy, especially for a sunday evening and it took a while for the waiting staff to notice us and seat us in the waiting area.
After 20 minutes we were shown to a table and ordered a starter and a bottlte of wine. The service wasn't particularly friendly or efficient, the white wine arrived with no chilling bucket and at £15 per bottle lacked any real flavour. Our starter was forgotten, when we informed them they asked if we wanted it with the main - not a terribly helpful suggestion. Despite forgetting it they still tried to charge me for it.
My pasta dish - with roast chicken, smoked bacon and a 'creamy mushroom sauce' delivered nothing promised on the menu. The pieces of chicken were few and far between, I counted only around three, the smoked pancetta equally as scarce. The pasta tasted of the type from cheap supermarket own brand packets and took me back to my student days, it had little flavour and was overly starchy. The sauce that was meant to bring it all together added nothing, with only the slightest hint of mushroom it was insipid and could easily have been a packet sauce. The service made up for nothing and the food served is an insult to Italian food.

This branch of Zizzi serves the brand well with good service and attention to detail.
When we were in there with our young son the Maître D suggested bringing his food early as soon as it was cooked. We were really impressed by this and it led to a wonderful eating experience for all of us.
Good ambience and service also helps this place shine. Can get a bit hectic when its busy but we can live with that.
No 5 stars as we have had some poor service experiences there too.

Zizzi's is my favourite Italian. I first went to the one by Oxford Street in London and was thrilled when i found out Bristol had 2!
This Zizzi's has a lovely feel to it and the staff were very friendly. The food, as always, was lovely.

We happened to come by this place by accident when we went down to clifton for the day.
We were lucky to get a table as it was fully booked,
I'm so glad we waited for a table the food was lovely, we had just started to eat and a large group came in so i was a bit unsure but we still had a lovely meal and the service was very good, even though they were busy the staff kept everyone happy, would definalty recommend this place, the atmosphere is nice inside too lights aren't too bright but you can still see what your eating.
